Giveaway Day!

Sew Mama Sew is having its fabulous annual Giveaway Day on December 13th. I will participating this year with some lovely New Zealand fabrics. Up for grabs are 3 luscious fat quarters named after our New Zealand flora and fauna.

Source: http://www.paua.net.nz

Paua, also known as abalone, a univalve shellfish, famous for its irridescent blues and greens in its shell. The inside is also edible and is often made into fritters. The inside of the shell is glorious in its colours and is often used for jewellery, ornaments and trinkets.

Tussock, found throughout NZ, in alpine regions, forests and sandy dunes.

The bush weta is about 4 inches long and is only found in NZ.  It is so old it has outlived the dinosaurs! There are 5 different types of weta in NZ and about 70 different species.  They are one of the heaviest insects when they are fully grown. They have ears on the front of their knees and can feel the vibrations of noises around them. They live in the forest and in dark damp places like the inside of rotting trees. My son has a fascination for them much to my disgust!!

Anyway, the giveaway is for this....3 fat quarters of Paua, Tussock and Bugs in the Undergrowth! Don't worry, I won't send you a real weta!!

Now that you know a little about my country, I would love to know a little about yours. To enter this giveaway:
1. Become a Follower
2. Tell me something interesting about your state or country.

This giveaway is open until December 17th and I will ship internationally. I will draw the winner randomly on the 18th.

  1. The bush weta sounds fascinating - I'll have to google them (my children would love them too!)
I'm from the UK and my area is famous for making cider and perry! in fact we have a 45 gallon drum of our own perry in the cellar at the moment!

ooooh I NEED to win some NZ fabric to remind me of home :) I'm a welli born kiwi but currently living in Perth.
What I love about Perth which attracted me here is the weather. Blue sky & sunshine about 80% of the year. It almost gets old... Hush did I really write that?!

  7. Well, Deb, I thought I was already a follower of yours, but apparently not! I am now, though! And an interesting fact about where I live? Two inches of snow will shut down an entire city in Nashville, Tennessee!!

  8. Thanks for a wonderful giveaway! Uh- that bug looks gross lol. Anyway, I'm an immigrant to the USA. I'm originally from Canada and so... Canadians may be known for good manners, but we all swear like truckers! No word of a lie!! ALso, my cousin is currently married to a gal from NZ! He loves it there.

Happy holidays to you and yours! xo

Where I live in Florida we have gators in the water year round. I have to be careful when I go kayaking! I try to only go when they are dormant and NOT in mating season when they can get a bit feisty.

  25. How beautiful! My uncle dives for abalone and my grandma had abalone shells around her house, so I have a bit of soft spot for it.

I live in California. We're in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, which are so beautiful. The trees around here are mostly oaks and Ponderosa pines, which I don't particularly like, and cedars, which I do. Getting higher up into the mountains there are more varieties of trees that I like (and, oh, the balsamy smell!), and also no poison oak, which is just the cherry on top. ;)

  31. What fabulous fabric. I'm Canadian (and I don't swear if anyone is around) but I've lived in Finland for a long time. When I first came here I was told not to be so polite all of the time! I don't think I've stopped though I may have slowed down. Christmas is celebrated on Christmas Eve here and Santa usually brings the gifts inside and hands them out to the children.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ok, that weta is more than a little bit creepy - but the fabrics are wonderful!
Up here in Canada, I would have to make a FQ trio that featured beavers, maple leaves, and snow.
I live right in the middle of the Great Lakes, so it gets quite cold and snowy here this time of year.

  36. I live in Arkansas. The northern part of the state has the beautiful Ozark Mountains dotted with thick forests and verdant valleys. There's an abundance of rivers and lakes throughout the state. Anglers gather to try their luck catching fat trout in our state's cool, running rivers. Bass and Crappie populate area lakes and are tasty when fried to a golden crisp. Boating and skiing on scenic lakes are exciting pastimes during the hot, humid months of summer. Our state also has a public park called the Crater of Diamonds. Visitors of all ages sift through bucket loads of unearthed soil in hopes of finding a diamond in the rough. The lucky many who find diamonds of all shapes and sizes get to keep their gems! Arkansas is also the home of former President Bill Clinton. I have lived in Arkansas all of my life and love living here very much.

  61. Hi Deb! I love finding things out about your beautiful country. It is the one place in the world that I have always wanted to visit. I am typing from Columbus, Ohio (US). Ohio is called "the Buckeye state" (a buckeye is a tree with a nut that resembles the eye of a deer). Our state motto is "with God all things are possible". We were added to the US as the 17h state in 1803. Our state bird is the cardinal (do you have those in NZ?) and our state insect is the ladybug. Oh, and it's snowing here - there's a beautiful blanket of snow covering everything. Cold, but so pretty!

We have daylight from about 9:30 a.m. to about 4 p.m. As it is socked in or snowing most of the time the days are dull indeed. It is recommended that people who live here take 1000 mg of Vitamin D a day to make up for what we don't get from the sun. Soon - December 20th - the solstice comes and our daylight starts to return. By February it will be glorious here - lots of snow and cold but mucho sun and long days.

I was born and raised in California (no I'm not blonde) and people from outside of the state continually misjudge the size. It takes about 14 hours of driving to get from the northern end of Cali to the southern end. When my relatives come into the state, they will often say "you should come by!" and I have to point out that they're actually 8 hours away from me. :)

  107. This is such a neat giveaway! I'm from the Jersey Shore and I look nothing like Snookie! In fact...none of us look like that. Actually, the cast of that show is the crowd we get in the summer we call "bennies". They come from North Jersey and New York. Thanks for telling us some fun facts about NZ! :-)

  108. What beautiful fabric! I love how you related it to your country!

Lets see I live in Utah USA but am from Colorado USA. So I live by the mountains, have hot summers and cold winters. Utah is mostly known for the large amount of LDS (mormon) people. I am LDS too, and no we don't have multiple wives :D

I am having a giveaway too, so if you have time feel free to stop by! http://hendrixville.blogspot.com/

  110. We have oodles and oodles or prairie dogs here in Colorado! People think about mountains and forests, but there's also flat plains all the way to the other side of Kansas.
