Sunday sewing...

I have been sewing up a storm with my Wonky Star blocks. They are so quick and easy and I am loving how they are turning out.  Even the kitten thinks they make a cool bed...

There is only one that I am not too happy with as I think it is just too busy, but will see how it fits in when they are all done.  It's the green one on the top right.

I have also finished up 3 more City Sampler blocks.  I was so carried away doing my star blocks I forgot I hadn't done this week's Tula Pink blocks. Yikes!

Wonky stars and bee blocks

When Flea Market Fancy was re-released I bought a FQ bundle and popped it away until I could think of the right quilt I wanted to use it in.  I have really been drawn to quilts with low volume and text fabrics along with the use of bold colour. I love this one, this one and this one, so thought I could do something along these lines.  I really am drawn to stars as well so chose the Parisian Star from the Modern Blocks book. It's a wonky star and I am not so good at wonkiness....I am more of a "have to match it up" kind of girl, so struggle with making the blocks too wonky!  So I pulled a few low volume and text fabrics and my FMF and got to work today.  The blocks stitch up very quickly. I made 4 in a couple of hours. Was too dark to take a photo of the 4th though.

I have also finished up my bee blocks for the latest round of the 3 x 6 bee.  I chose to join the Pinwheel hive this time round and here are my finished blocks which should now be winging their way across the Pacific!

Lucky Stars July block and Tula Pink blocks

July's star was certainly one of the easier stars...I like how this one has turned out.  I hadn't used any of these low volume prints in my previous stars, but I felt the text prints would be too busy. I think the low volume really accentuates the star and I just adore the Micro Mod purple.

All the stars from Jan to July.

And my Tula Pink blocks for this week.... I just want to keep cutting and sewing more and more of them!!

More Tula Pink

The next 3 blocks in the Tula Pink QAL.  I find them so addictive.  They are so quick to whip up. It's just the cutting that takes the time and deliberating over the fabric choices!

My eldest daughter had her Senior school ball (I guess the similar thing in the US is the prom?) last weekend.  I have decided she can elope instead of getting married as it was so stressful just getting ready for the ball!!  First, it's deciding on the dress and the shoes which we were lucky enough to pick up when we went to Oz in April. That was a task in itself! Then on the day it was all about hair and make-up. The hair partially fell out while we were getting the make-up done, so amidst tears I organised for a quick re-do. This was at 4.30 and the boyfriend and his parents were arriving at our house at 4.30!  Then he gets all stressed and that stresses her more so more tears!! Crikey!! Anyway here is the result...

Tula Pink blocks and Lucky Stars

I am really enjoying these little blocks.  I am trying to keep to Tula's colors or thereabouts as I just adore her finished rainbow quilt.  I don't have a huge range of her fabrics, apart from a few yards of Prince Charming and Parisville. and some odds and ends of Birds and Bees.   However, I did see some Salt Water in my local store for NZD$28 (now don't fall off your chairs US gals as that equates to USD$22, which is normal price here for fabric) and before I knew it I had picked out 7 FQ and the credit card was in the machine!  I buy all my fabric from online US stores so that very rarely pay that much for fabric.

My other finish for the month is the June Lucky Stars BOM block. I love how this turned out but did not enjoy the piecing of this one so much.  I think it is my fav one so far.  The matching of the lines is more good luck than good management! The green and the center fabric are Sarah Fielke's fabric "On the Pond"
